Aet'Thol is a demented, chaotic evil Lich that inhabits a tomb underneath Blackthorn Church. Though relatively easy to access even for a low-level character, he is exceptionally hard to take down.

Aet'Thol was once a powerful and respected Mage, but he dabbled in necromancy at some point in the past, eventually resulting in his transformation into a Lich and his descent into insanity. Despite thinking very little of mortals, he has left some cryptic clues in his Tattered Journal, occasionally in the form of anagrams, that lead to his location.

His apparent immortality is thanks to a shard of his soul being stored in a phylactery (Aet'Thol's Phyclatery, another anagram); this must be located and destroyed in front of the Lich before he himself can be challenged. High Pacifist Ganymede was one of the first who attempted to cleanse Aet'Thol of his curse, getting as far as destroying his phylactery, but was defeated and corrupted when he faced the Lich, a price that Ganymede and his caste paid for very heavily.

Attacks and abilities

Aet'Thol attacks mainly with life drain spells, although occasionally he engages opponents with his Rune Staff. His mastery over death allows him to quickly regenerate any injuries he might sustain; there is a limit in how much he can heal himself for, but that limit is beyond reach to all but the largest of parties.

Notes

  • Despite popular rumour, Aet'Thol never drops his Rune Staff.
