General Information

Katahdin Tundra (WikiVersion).png

The Katahdin Tundra, an area existing only on the 1-alt server, is essentially Nightmist's version of Antarctica. It is a large, continental island locked in perpetual winter courtesy of Pamola. The entry and exit point is via a Silversail cruiseliner which docks at the Loading Pier of the Whaling Station; the Whaling Station is quite spartan as far as towns go, as it does not have a bank. Only characters of level 29 or higher are able to board the ship from Silversail to the Katahdin Tundra.

The Whaling Station is located at the northernmost edge of the island. The Whaling Station consists of only one street that runs from west to east, a Loading Pier runs north near the center of this singular street and another small path goes south from the center of the singular street. Along the south side of the singular street are buildings including a tavern and three shops.

From the Whaling Station, there are three exit points leading onto a large Frozen Plain where most of the monsters of the Katahdin Tundra are found. Generally, the creatures dwelling on this Frozen Plain are arranged in such a way that it favours particular classes. The western side is better suited for Mages with higher numbers of Ice Trolls; the central exit is better for Berserkers with its wide open expanse so being under the effects of Grog XD is not too detrimental; the eastern side is better for Clerics and Paladins, as there are a greater concentration of undead there. For more details, refer to the Monsters section found under the Population section of this page.

Furthermore, as the Frozen Plain is transversed southwestwards from the Whaling Station, a massive Talaskan Forest, with its twisting pathways, hold fearsome predators within its depths. Lake Talaska is located somewhat to the center of the forest, its frozen surface bearing treacherous thin ice. At five different locations are an opening in the surface ice allowing for safe passage underwater; going underwater without a Water Ring leads to a sure death by drowning.

Further southwestwards, through the Talaskan Forest, is a smaller Frozen Plain which is shaped like a crescent as it skirts the southwest side of the forest. Near to the very southeastern end of this Frozen Plain, also close to the southern exit of the Talaskan Forest, is a Coastal Path snaking eastwards to meet another Frozen Plain. This Frozen Plain spirals clockwise beginning slightly past the sixth hour and goes around to almost the sixth hour, giving the illusion of rising ground around a tumulus, and turns northward upon the top of the Alomkik Tumulus.

Taverns

The Fisherman's Rest is located on the south side of the singular street of the Whaling Station, the first building west from the center of the street. The pub charges 600 gold per refresh, which is easily compensated for when a Wolf's Blood is given to Angela as she gives 600 gold each time.

Shops

Three of the buildings lined at the south side of the Whaling Station are shops.

The Talaskan Outfitters sell clothing for Berserkers, it is the building farthest west.

The magic shop is the second building from the east; it is east beside the path that leads south to the large Frozen Plain.

The supply shop is the easternmost building, selling necessities and tools.

Other

The Hunter's Cottage is located at the easternmost dead end of the Talaskan Forest. To reach it, head into the Talaskan Forest from the large Frozen Plain at the easternmost entrance. A path goes straight south to the Hunter's Cottage.

Monsters

Katahdin Tundra holds a diverse population of creatures with which all classes will find their own niche. A few creatures are particular to where they dwell, most others are widespread in the area.

Lingering Souls, Skeletal Wights, and Snow Wights are commonly found on the southeastern region of the large Frozen Plain; Only Skeletal Wights and Snow Wights are found in the other smaller Frozen Plains though these are intermingled with other predatory creatures.

Talaskan Digestors are kill-to-pass and are encountered only in the Talaskan Forest. The ferocious Wolverines prefer the Talaskan Forest but they can and may chase anyone out of the forest.

Ice Trolls and Tundra Wolves are found throughout the entire area except the vicinity of Lake Talaska though Tundra Wolves may give chase onto the surface ice.

Polar Bears are the rarer of the predatory creatures of Katahdin Tundra. They can be found on the Frozen Plains and on the surface ice of Lake Talaska.

Snow Foxes are also prevalent in the area though a greater concentration of them are found near the Whaling Station and within the Talaskan Forest. They are also found on the surface of Lake Talaska.

Piranhas and Stone Fish lurk in the cold depths of Lake Talaska. A lone Ice Wraith guards the ominous glow at the very bottom of Lake Talaska and is kill-to-pass; Ice Wraiths are also spawned by Pamola. Kitsunes can be found underwater but they accompany Lady Talaska.

Bosses

Pamola flies in circles just above the Alomkik Tumulus. Beware that each movement taken on the Alomkil Tumulus will consume a single stamina point and any character who is too exhausted to make any further action are left behind. Note that the Alomkik Tumulus is a location which when relogging will send the character back to the Fisherman's Rest, the pub at the Whaling Station.

Lady Talaska is the source of the ominous glow emanating from the bottom of Lake Talaska. A lone Ice Wraith is kill-to-pass and must be slain before Lady Talaska can be apprehended and challenged. A Water Ring is needed to survive the depths of Lake Talaska or else drowning is likely to follow.

The Talaskan Hunter is located in the Hunter's Cottage and only a single character may enter the cabin to challenge the Talaskan Hunter.

The Wolf Lord is located roaming in circles within the Talaskan Forest. Because of Talaskan Digestors and various other predatory creatures inhabiting the forest, pursuing the Wolf Lord may be dangerous without a strategy.

Hazards

Thin ice on the surface of Lake Talaska may break and causing damage to the character who falls through; Protect will prevent any such occurrence.

Those who go swimming underwater of Lake Talaska without a Water Ring will drown to their death.

Talaskan Digestors are kill-to-pass and deal fairly high damage, making the dangerous even for a high level character.

Along the western side of the small Frozen Plain southwest of the Talaskan Forest are unstable ice shelves which will break and send anyone who falls through plummeting to their death unless they have Protect which will prevent any such occurrence.

There are no banks in this area, meaning that the only way to deposit any gold into the bank is to return to Silversail and finding a bank to deposit the gold.

Notes

This area appears only on the 1-alt server.

5,000 gold is needed to board the ship from and to Silversail. This means that 5,000 gold is needed to board the ship to the Katahdin Tundra from Silversail and another 5,000 gold is needed to board the ship from the Katahdin Tundra to Silversail. If a character localled at the Fisherman's Rest without any gold, they will have to somehow get 5,000 gold to board the ship to be able to return to Silversail.
